The Unofficial Finish Line
Per tradition, you really haven’t finished the #mb10k until you enjoy a beverage at Shellback Tavern! We took a moment to chat with owner Bob Beverly about why this is the obvious next stop after the race.
Shellback Tavern is the “Unofficial Finish Line” for the MB10k, tell us how you got that title.
The tradition began with the very first race with Shellback Tavern opening early for the race crowd. In the early days it was a lot of can beer to go which was consumed on the street!
Chris Erskine of the Los Angeles Times wrote about Shellback Tavern in August and it was love at first sight for him. What makes people fall in love with Shellbacks?
We have a simple rule. Offer a decent product at a fair price in a friendly environment and you can't go wrong! We are known as a casual non pretentious neighborhood joint. All customers treated with respect and equally. At any time you may find the LA Kings or Galaxy. Mark Cuban has his table. TV personalities and rock stars. We are geared for good times for all.
How long have you been a sponsor of the Manhattan Beach 10k?
Russ Lesser approached us about being an official sponsor about 7 years ago but we have always helped out where needed at the finish area.
Have you run in any of the races yourself?
I personally have not raced but many in my family have participated over the years. I have never missed cheering on the runners.
